Media polarisation over independence for Catalonia. A comparative study of coverage in RT

2019

Facebook’s ad hoc groups: a potential source of communicative power of networked citizens

2017

Ad hoc groups (sporadically formed on social network sites for achieving particular common objectives) have been seen as a public space for citizen participation and debate. This study focuses on Facebook’s ad hoc groups in Finland. The aim is to detect the potential of these groups to enhance networked citizens’ communicative power for raising societally important issues to public agenda and initiate changes in society. We suggest a categorization of the groups according to their missions, and present their members’ specific motivations and objectives through an online survey. Despite the general entertainment-orientation and self-referential nature of social media, the results show that a…

Issues of Ethics and Methods in Studying Social Media

2016

The Editorial raises some challenging ethical and methodological aspects of Internet based research (such as protection of informational privacy, informed consent, general ethical guidelines vs case-based approach), which are further discussed in the five articles of this special issue.

Best practices in the Japanese software market

2007

Globalization of software markets is driving software firms to seek market share and growth opportunities from leading software markets in the world. As the second largest software market, Japan offers high growth potential for foreign software firms. In Japan, the information and communication technology industry is the largest market sector, and the size of the software market in Japan was US$131.8 billion in 2004. Despite great opportunities in the Japanese market, entering the market and conducting successful business there can be difficult due to cultural differences between Japan and Western countries. In this multi-case study we focus on nine software firms in order to examine the be…

Non-isothermal mass transfer of ferrocolloids through porous membrane

2011

Abstract The present paper deals with transport properties of ferrofluid nanoparticles in non-isothermal capillary-porous layer. Experiment establishes that the temperature difference, which is applied across the layer, induces a thermoosmotic pressure gradient directed toward increasing temperature. The measurement results are interpreted in a frame of phenomenology of linear irreversible thermodynamics. The transport coefficients are evaluated comparing the measured separation curves with approximate solution of the corresponding mass transfer problem.

The voice of a heterodox authority on love in the First Francoism. Amparo Rivelles’ sentimental advice columns

2021

Improvement of membrane performances to enhance the yield of vanillin in a pervaporation reactor.

2014

In membrane reactors, the interaction of reaction and membrane separation can be exploited to achieve a “process intensification”, a key objective of sustainable development. In the present work, the properties that the membrane must have to obtain this result in a pervaporation reactor are analyzed and discussed. Then, the methods to enhance these properties are investigated for the photocatalytic synthesis of vanillin, which represents a case where the recovery from the reactor of vanillin by means of pervaporation while it is produced allows a substantial improvement of the yield, since its further oxidation is thus prevented. To this end, the phenomena that control the permeation of bot…

Measurement of transport phenomena of volatile compounds: A review

2008

International audience; Measurement of the transport phenomena of volatile compounds is a central preoccupation in food flavour and is the subject of the present paper. After a theoretical reminder concerning transport phenomena, the methods used for the measurement of diffusion and mass transfer of volatile compounds are described with their principles, main advantages and drawbacks. These methods are illustrated by some results obtained for flavoured model food products.Several methods characterized by the type of diffusion coefficient measured, the method basis, the scale at which diffusion is measured and the means used to detect the diffusing molecule, are available to determine diffus…

Electric Field Effect on the Thermal Decomposition and Co-combustion of Straw with Solid Fuel Pellets

2019

The aim of this study was to provide more effective use of straw for energy production by co-firing wheat straw pellets with solid fuels (wood, peat pellets) under additional electric control of the combustion characteristics at thermo-chemical conversion of fuel mixtures. Effects of the DC electric field on the main combustion characteristics were studied experimentally using a fixed-bed experimental setup with a heat output up to 4 kW. An axisymmetric electric field was applied to the flame base between the positively charged electrode and the grounded wall of the combustion chamber. The experimental study includes local measurements of the composition of the gasification gas, flame tempe…
